Korabl-Sputnik 2 satellite, also called Vostok-1K No. 2, was launched by the Soviet Union on 19th August 1960. It carried a television camera, 40 mice, 2 rats, different types of plants and two dogs, Belka and Strelka. The craft returned safely to earth the following day. Both the dogs survived and Strelka even had a litter of puppies a year later.
