Japanese physicist, semiconductor research and Nobel laureate who played an important role in the invention of the blue LED which paved the way for energy-saving and efficient source of bright white light. The 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Isamu Akasaki along with Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura.
