15 September, 1835

HMS Beagle reached the Galápagos Islands on 15th September 1835. The ship carrying Charles Darwin landed at Chatham or San Cristobal.

The pristine environment of the islands were a perfect ground for observing several species in their natural habitat. It was at the Galápagos archipelago that Darwin came up with the theory of evolution through natural selection after studying various animals, especially finches.
