Henry Heimlich publishes the now famous Heimlich manoeuvre, as an informal article in Emergency Medicine on 1st June 1974. The manoeuvre is a technique for stopping choking by abdominal thrusts.
A few days later, the Heimlich manoeuvre is used for the fist time by retired restaurant owner, Isaac Piha, to rescue Irene Bogachus in Bellevue, Washington.
