On 5th December 1969, four nodes at the ARPANET were set up. ARPANET was the network of the US defence organisation Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA).

The first message on the ARPANET was sent by Charley Kline from the SDS Sigma 7 Host computer at UCLA to the Stanford Research Institute’s SDS 940 Host computer. ARPANET was where the Internet started.
