Svetlana Savitskaya becomes the first woman to perform a space walk on 25th July 1984. The Soviet cosmonaut was aboard the Salyut 1 craft.
The first American woman to perform the space walk was Kathryn D. Sullivan, a crew member of the Space Shuttle Challenger craft.
