The first transistor radio was announced by Texas Instruments on 18th October 1954. The first company to make an entire transistor radio in-house was the Japanese electronic giant Sony. Their TR-55 had 5 transistors and printed circuit boards. Sony sold their first transistor radio on 7th August 1955.
