The first test tube baby, Louise Brown, was born on 25th July 1978 at Oldham General Hospital. The in-vitro fertilisation process was developed by Patrick Steptoe and Robert Edwards. The 2010 Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to Robert Edwards for his work.
