On 9th September 1940, the first remote operation of a computer was carried out by mathematician and inventor George Stibitz. His Complex Number Calculator at Bell Labs in New York City, took questions from the audience at the meeting of the Mathematical Association of America and transmitted the solutions (responses) at McNutt Hall in Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire. The transmission took place over telegraph lines.
