The first public radio broadcast took place on 13th January 1910. It was a live performance of popular operas – Cavalleria rusticana (by Pietro Mascagni, Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti and Guido Menasci) and Pagliacci (by Ruggero Leoncavallo). The broadcast took place from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
