The first electric system with overhead wires began service on 19th January 1883. It was developed by the great inventor Thomas Edison who, a year back, had also started the world’s first commercial electric plant that had lit up a square mile of lower Manhattan. The electric system with the overhead wires began operation in Roselle, New Jersey.
