First embryo transfer leading to birth announced.

3 February, 1984

On 3rd February 1984, the first embryo transfer which resulted in a live birth was announced by John Buster and his team. Embryo transfer forms the basis of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and involves placing an embryo of one woman into the uterus of another to assist in reproduction.
