1 October, 1880

Thomas Edison opened the first electric lamp factory on 1st October 1880. Contrary to popular belief, Edison did not invent the light bulb. The credit for that goes to British physicist Joseph Swan who was also the first to receive a patent for them.

Joseph Swan used the electric bulb in his house and London’s Savoy Theatre, the world’s first home and public building to be light by electric power, respectively.
