First call from a handheld mobile phone made by inventor and Motorola employee Martin Cooper - 3 April 1973

The first call from a handheld mobile phone (DynaTAC 8000X) was made by Martin Cooper to Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs on 3rd April 1973. Cooper is regarded as the “father of the cell phone” and had invented the mobile phone while working for Motorola.

Incidentally, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X was the first mobile phone approved by the US FCC.
