Ferdinand Magellan begins expedition to circumnavigate the globe.

20 September, 1519

Ferdinand Magellan began his expedition to circumnavigate the world on 20th September 1519. He set sail from Sanlúcar de Barrameda with close to 270 men. Magellan, unfortunately, could not complete the voyage and was killed in battle in the Philippines on 27th April 1521.
