It consisted of lists of actors, actresses, and directors with unix shell scripts for searching the data. It was later shifted from Usenet to a server at Cardiff University in Wales and came to been known as the Cardiff Internet Movie Database.
In 1998, Amazon.com purchased the service to compliment their DVD and Video sales.
