As per StatCounter, on the week of 18th March 2012, Chrome became the most used browser in the world for the first time beating Internet Explorer. Chrome was released by Google on 2nd September 2008. And in about four years, Chrome usage had surpassed that of Internet Explorer, the reigning web browser of that time.
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer had annihilated Netscape Navigator in the first “web browser war” – at one time it had close to 95% market share. Over time, with new browsers entering the market, most notably Mozilla Firefox, the share of I.E. had decreased. But with the launch of Google Chrome, Internet Explorer got a strong competitor.
