American inventor best known for inventing the QWERTY keyboard. He one of the first people to have invented the typewriter in the United States.
The QWERTY keyboard was designed primarily to prevent jamming of typewriters during bouts of fast typing and is actually not user-friendly. It is claimed that the alternative, the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard, results in faster typing, lesser number of errors and less strain on the fingers.
