Charles-Émile Reynaud died on 9 January, 1918

French inventor best known for creating the Praxinoscope, a device which used a strip of pictures placed on a spinning cylinder to produce an illusion of motion. Not only was Reynard the first person to have projected animated cartoons, but was also the first who used film perforations.
