Martin Kamen and Sam Ruben, American scientists working at the University of California Radiation laboratory in Berkeley, California, discovered carbon-14 on 27th February 1940. This radioactive isotope of carbon forms the basis of radiocarbon dating technique developed by Willard Libby.
