The camera was patented by American/British photographer and film pioneer, Birt Acres, on 27th May 1895. Acres also made several silent films during the Victorian era.
In addition to the first working 35 mm camera, Birt Acres is also credited to have invented Birtac, the first daylight loading home movie camera and projector.
