French engineer and physicist famous for his contributions to the theory of wave optics that he studied both experimentally and theoretically . His invention, the Fresnel lens, which was originally adopted by lighthouses, has found its way in applications of today. His Fresnel equations of waves and reflectivity are used in computer graphics for several applications including rendering of water.
