The Antarctica Treaty came into force on the 23rd of June 1961. As per the treaty, the southern-most continent has been demarcated as a site for scientific research only. All military activities on Antarctica have been banned.
By the way, Antarctica has its own Third-level Domain – .aq. Only the signatories of the treaty or people who live on the continent can avail of domain names on this TLD.
