The Anna Kournikova virus was launched by a Dutch programmer, Jan de Wit, on 11th February 2001. It infected millions of emails by tricking users to open the messages with a photo of the tennis star – the subject line was “Here you have, ;0)”. The worm was a malicious program written in Visual Basic which, when opened in Microsoft Windows, forwarded itself to everyone in the Microsoft Outlook contact list.
