Amelia Earhart takes off on her solo non-stop transatlantic flight from Newfoundland on 20th May 1932. She lands in Ireland the next day due to bad weather and becomes the first woman in the world to fly non-stop across the Atlantic.
Incidentally, the day was the fifth anniversary of the world’s first solo non-stop transatlantic flight by Charles Lindbergh who flew his Spirit of St. Louis on the same day in 1927.
