American engineer and inventor known for his contributions to the Manhattan Project in its early days and constructing a differential analyser, an analog computer that could solve differential equations. He also developed the idea of memex, a hypothetical hypertext microfilm viewer. He was one of the co-founders of Raytheon, the major American defence contractor.
