Flash Programming Tutorial - Importing

Various file formats can be imported into Flash. These include:

  • Enhanced Metafile (.emf)
  • Windows Metafile (.wmf)
  • Adobe Illustrator (.eps and .ai)
  • Flash Player (.swf and .spl)
  • AutoCAD DXF (.dxf)
  • Bitmap (.bmp and .dib)
  • JPEG Image (.jpg)
  • GIF Image (.gif)
  • PNG Image (.png)
  • WAV Sound (.wav)
  • QuickTime Movie (.mov)

This list is for Windows systems and will differ from that for the Macintosh.

Sound can be included in Flash movies only once it's been imported.
We have already seen how to import jpgs and bmps. When an image is imported it is first converted into a symbol so after you have converted it into a vector (traced it manually or through the Trace Bitmap option), be sure to delete the symbol from the library.
