Remove and delete photos from Yahoo My Photos

A friend of mine sent an email with lots of photos. I want to keep the original message and some of the pictures. How can I remove the other photos from the Yahoo account? There is no delete button and so even if I select the photos, I cannot do anything except download them to my computer. I share this Yahoo email address with my wife and she finds these pictures quite offensive, if you know what I mean. I would be eternally grateful if you can tell me how to delete photos from this Yahoo account. Thanks in advance.

Now here was a question that had me completely baffled! Though I really wanted to help Derek, I simply didn't know which Yahoo photos he was referring to. When I asked him to provide more details, he tells me that there is a My Photos section in the Yahoo account (???) which can be accessed by a link of the same name. This confused me even more because I didn't have a "My Photos" link at my Yahoo mail account. I finally told him to send a screenshot of the web page.

From the screenshot, it was evident that Derek was using Mail Classic to check Yahoo mail and there was indeed a "My Photos" link on the left. The All-new Mail webmail interface that I was using had no such link... no wonder I was completely in the dark! So the first step was to switch the Yahoo mail versions.

How to remove and delete photos from Yahoo My Photos

The My Photos section in the Classic interface displays all the images sent and received as email attachments - refer screenshot below. Though you can select these pictures individually using the checkboxes provided there is no direct way to remove photos from Yahoo My Photos because of the absence of a delete button. You are only allowed to "save" these images to your computer.

So how does one go about deleting images (offensive, or otherwise) from Yahoo My Photos? Yes, you can always get rid of the entire email but this will not solve Derek's problem who wants to keep some of the photo email attachments and the original message.

The solution is to forward the email to yourself... but edit it before dispatching. Follow the steps below to remove photos from Yahoo My Photos and delete them for good.

• Locate and open the email message that has the photo email attachments.
• Click the "Forward" button.
• In the "To:" field, type in your Yahoo email address. This means you will be getting another copy of the message.
• Hit the small "Remove" link next to the photos you want to delete.
• The text contents of the original message can also be edited if you want.
• "Send" this message to yourself.
• IMPORTANT #1: Now get rid of the original email - select and hit "Delete" which moves it to the "Trash" folder.
• A quick check will reveal that My Photos continues to show the pictures. That's because the original email has not been completely removed from your account... it's still lying in the "Trash" folder.
• IMPORTANT #2: Empty the Trash folder to have the photos removed from the Yahoo My Photos section.

Please remember that picture attachments of both sent and received email messages and shown in Yahoo My Photos and, thus, the original email can be in either the "Inbox" or the "Sent" folders.
