I know it’s free and supported by advertisements but is there a way to remove the ads from a Yahoo email account? At times they are not to my taste and the animation is a big distraction.

Yes, you can remove ads from free Yahoo email accounts… it depends on the version of the interface being used. However, the best way to rid the account off advertisements and get more space for your messages is by upgrading to Yahoo Plus. Having said that, here is a little tip to hide ‘distracting’ images on free Yahoo email accounts.

Remove (hide) advertisements from Yahoo All-new interface

Ads can only be removed from a free Yahoo email account in the All-new interface. People who check Yahoo email through the Classic version are out of luck – sorry! The two options for such subscribers is to either switch the Yahoo mail version or get the Plus upgrade that costs a tad less than $20 annually. Professionals and companies can also think of upgrading their accounts to the Yahoo business email.

In the All-new Mail interface, Yahoo shows a large skyscraper ad at the right side of the page. To its immediate left is an inconspicuous arrow. Clicking on it will hide the advertisement in your Yahoo account – refer image below. Thus, with a single mouse click, you can remove the advertisements shown in your Yahoo email account!

By the way, the first time that small arrow is clicked, Yahoo pops up a small window prompting you to upgrade to Plus. Put a check mark in front of “Don’t show this again” before you click on “OK”. (cheapskate!)

Generally, the skyscraper ad is shown alongside the list of email. This space is occupied by the Yahoo Mail stationery when you compose a new email, a reply or a forward.

Now wasn’t this the simplest of tips? No need to kick yourself if you didn’t know about it. There are tons of things I am not aware of too! Remember, ignorance is bliss… well, sometimes!
