On 22nd June 1633, Galileo Galilei was forced by the Holy Office in Rome to renounce his view that the Sun, rather than the Earth, is the center of the universe.
A few years before, Galileo had been formally banned from teaching his views by the Roman Catholic Church.
Using his telescope, Galileo had observed the four largest moons of Jupiter and the planet Neptune.
