Thanks to the instructions on how to get an email address, I’ve been able to create two email accounts – one at Hotmail and the other at Yahoo. How soon can i start using my email address after setting it up? Thanks again and Merry Christmas
Rochelle

I sometimes hate myself for not stating the obvious. Well, Rochelle, your email address is ready the moment to set it up. So if you’ve filled and submitted the online registration form successfully, the email inbox will be shown and you can start using email immediately.

I can’t stop myself from rendering advice whenever I get the chance… so here are some tips for people who’ve just created their first email email address.

  • Restrain yourself from sending email to everyone you know on the planet. I’m sure all email services, whether it’s Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo, have a prescribed number of messages you can send in a 24-hour period. For instance, this number is 300 for old Hotmail accounts and much less for accounts that have only recently been created.
  • Do not send spam! Read how to stop spam for details.
  • Do not use words that may trigger the automated spam filters.
  • Do not send emails with just the attachment/s and no subject line or actual content. A substantial number of such messages may annoy the spam filters.
  • It is advisable to use the Cc and Bcc columns when sending the same email to multiple recipients. Have no idea what I am talking about… read the next point.
  • Get to know a little about your email account. There would be tons of functionality and features that would help you be more productive. For instance, you can quickly use the Cc (carbon-copy) and Bcc (Blind carbon-copy) fields to add additional recipients for the same email message.
  • Be careful when providing your email on other, especially shoddy, web sites. Your email address would be sold along with hundreds of others to spammer who will start flooding the inbox with junk.
  • Enjoy your new found power and remember don’t abuse the system or you will be kicked out.
