I have a similar problem.
I developed an asp.net website in visual studio on Windows 7, then copied all the files over to a server running XP. All the links to other pages work, but my img, style, and javascript links do not work. My master page holds all these links, so Im guessing its something to do with absolute vs relative urls, but on my default.aspx page, I copied the Image url (right click>copy image url in google chrome, or right click>properties in IE) and this points to the location where the image is on the server. If I navigate to this image url in chrome/IE, it says: You are not authorized to view this page

You do not have permission to view this directory or page due to the access control list (ACL) that is configured for this resource on the Web server.
Please try the following:

Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.
Click the Refresh button to try again with different credentials.
HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

Technical Information (for support personnel)

Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 401.
Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled About Security, Access Control, and About Custom Error Messages.

Another reason would be changing the location/directory of the images without changing the path in the html document.

Thank you for your help. I was struggling to figure out why the images were not showing up on the website only to realise it was to do with the case sensitivity. Thank you very much
