How to fix 0X800CCC0D error I receive in Outlook Express version 6? I want to check for new messages and the program is showing this error number.

The error number 0X800CCC0D is shown by Microsoft email clients, the popular Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail, when the program cannot find the host (refer image below). As you probably know, when someone sends you an email, it doesn’t arrive on your computer straightaway. It is first stored on your email account on a server, a computer connected to the internet 24/7. To download the messages to your computer, you need to use an email client/program.

Error number 0X800CCC0D as displayed in Windows Live Mail email client - same for Outlook Express

It’s the job of the email program to connect to your account on the server machine and get the messages one by one. FYI, this process is ‘governed’ by email protocols that determine how the email program communicates with the server. POP (Post Office Protocol) and IMAP are some popular email protocols.

Solutions to Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail error number 0X800CCC0D

Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail display error number 0X800CCC0D when they are not able to locate the server – thus, no new email is received. The two simple solutions to this problem are as follows:

  • Are you working with an active internet connection?
Open the web browser and try opening a few popular web sites such as yahoo.com or google.com. If they don’t load, you need to contact the ISP and get the problem rectified.
  • Check the mail server address
Open the email account “Properties” window in your chosen email client and double-check the mail server address. Please remember, both the incoming and outgoing email servers need to be correct to receive and send messages without problems.
Thus, in Windows Live Mail, click “Tools” -> “Accounts” -> select account -> “Properties” -> “Servers” tab. Confirm incoming mail (POP3) value if you have problems receiving email.
Check the incoming and outgoing email servers in Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail

One of the above tips should solve the Outlook Express / Windows Live Mail error number 0X800CCC0D issue. if not, let me know about your problem in detail.

Great. That worked perfectly. My email outgoing server was different from the incoming and that’s why I was getting error 0X800CCC0D. I contacted the ISP and got the correct information and am now able to send email without problem.
