Block spam at Yahoo email account

Posted on August 14, 2010 under Email, Internet Tips, Yahoo  |  Leave a comment

I get too much spam at my Yahoo account. I was thinking of changing the email address. But, as you probably know, that’s not easy. Open to any sensible advice.
Donald Morrow

I don’t agree… it’s easy to change a Yahoo email address. But I don’t think it will work in your case… and it does bring forth additional problems. I am kind of surprised that your account is inundated with spam because Yahoo takes great pride in the accuracy of its filter. Anyway, there are two ways to block spam at your Yahoo account. One is to use a free third party service and the other is to pay a nominal sum to upgrade the account to Plus. Let me walk you through these two options. More »

Fonts in email signature

Is it possible to use other fonts in my email signature on Yahoo? I am not happy with what is on offer. I think these fonts are too plain and want something more fancy that actually looks like a signature.
Wayne Detzler

At the time of writing, Yahoo mail has only a few fonts: Arial, Bookman Old Style, Courier, Garamond, Lucida Console, Tahoma, Times New Roman and Verdana. Unfortunately, there is no ‘direct’ way of using a different font in the email signature. However, here is a nice and simple workaround.

I encountered a weird error on Yahoo! Mail a few minutes back. I was awaiting an important email and thought I’ll login quickly at my account. Unfortunately, the system just didn’t let me. I tried several times but to no avail. Below is a screenshot of the error I got when I went through the Yahoo login page.

Don’t remember my Yahoo account – email address and password

Posted on November 12, 2009 under Yahoo  |  1 Comment

I don’t remember my Yahoo account – the email address or my password. I have not used Yahoo since it was installed but would like to start using it now.
Marilyn Eberle

Needless to mention, this query is from a complete beginner. If you don’t remember the Yahoo account, whether the email address or the password, and you had never used it before, get a new Yahoo email address.
Yes, it’s that straightforward. You can simply ignore the old account. By the way, if you hadn’t used the previous Yahoo account for about 120 days, it would have been deleted anyway!

Outlook window opens – email is Yahoo

Posted on November 10, 2009 under Email, Outlook Express, Yahoo  |  Leave a comment

My email is Yahoo. When I want to email something from the net an Outlook window opens. If I type my message in this window and hit send, I get an error message and the email goes nowhere. What do I need to do? Thanks
Jimmy

Let me take a step back and describe this issue in greater detail – this is probably what happens.
Jimmy comes across an email address on a web page. When he clicks on it, an Outlook window with the email address in the “To:” field opens. Jimmy quickly realizes that this might be a way to send email. He puts in the email subject and composes the message. Everything seems fine but when he hits the send, an error message is displayed. Probably, the Outlook window remains open which further confirms that the email hasn’t left his computer.
OK Jimmy this is what you have to do.

Yahoo account compromised: ID incorrect

Posted on November 6, 2009 under Yahoo  |  4 Comments

I am told my Yahoo ID is incorrect. I’ve had the same address for over 8 years. Recently I was e-mailed that my Yahoo account may have been compromised and I needed to change my password, which I did. My machine was working fine last night and today… I can’t get into Yahoo at all. Every thing I type in is not letting me access it. Help!
Lynne Bryant

This seems like a typical phishing attack. Lynne received an email with the distressing subject “Your Yahoo account has been compromised” and hastily acted on it – clicked on the embedded link and then entered the Yahoo ID and password on the fraudulent web page. And oh, as far as I know, Yahoo has never sent an email with such a subject. If you think about it – How will Yahoo ever know your account has been compromised?

What is Yahoo sign in seal?

Posted on September 17, 2009 under Email, Yahoo  |  4 Comments

What is a Yahoo sign in seal? Is it imperative to create one for my account? If so, can I use my photo as the seal?
Harry D.

A personalized Yahoo account sign in seal - you can use a photo or a company logo

Yahoo sign in seal is a security measure that can prevent a phishing attack (more on this below). But that’s not the only reason why you should have one. Using your photo or your company logo will personalize the Yahoo login page. Let me elaborate on these two points. More »
