Get Windows Mail on Windows 7

Posted on August 20, 2010 under Answers, Windows 7, Windows Mail, Windows Vista  |  11 Comments

I had hardly used Windows Mail on Vista. The day I learnt that it’s no longer being supported by Microsoft, I downloaded and installed their new email program (Windows Live Mail) and have been quite satisfied. But not many people share my views – to each his own. Windows Live Mail differs markedly from Outlook Express and Windows Mail in both the layout and the way it organizes messages and that has resulted in a lot of irritated users.

Anyway, I thought wrongly that Windows Mail is absent from Windows 7. Actually the program is very much there… though “hidden”. And fortunately the Vista email program can be made to run on the new operating system. People have been kind enough to post step by step instructions on how to get Windows Mail on your new Windows 7 computer.

Download Live email

I have been using live.com as my email. I want to download my mail to my computer and work with it there … offline … comfortably. I HATE the way Live has their display set up. I find their “features” slow and cumbersome. Even though most of that is probably because I have a slow connection… and I cannot do anything about it. I have been floundering around for 2 months trying to resolve this problem. Can you give me any direction??? Thanks. (I have VISTA … ughhhhh)

Downloading messages from an online account and storing them on your computer requires the use of an email program or an email client in geeky language. Does Outlook Express, Outlook, or Windows Mail ring a bell? These are all email programs. So which one should you use to download Live email? More »

Windows Vista email program

I have Outlook Express on my old computer and bought a new one with Vista. Can I transfer all my existing email, addresses, etc. to another email program on Windows Vista? If so, please tell me how?
I know very little about this!
Jule

The email program on Windows Vista is Windows Mail – refer that link for tips and support articles. It replaces Outlook Express which was pre-installed on XP and some older versions of Windows. The interface and functionality of these two programs is quite the same and, in my opinion, Microsoft should have continued with the old name – Outlook Express version 7 – instead of giving a new one to the Windows Vista email program.

Anyway, to answer your question – Yes! You can move all your email messages and contact addresses to the new computer. This is a fairly simple process that can be completed in a few minutes.

Transfer emails from Windows Vista to Windows 7

I have recently purchased a laptop that has Windows 7. Can you tell me how to use email on this computer and how to transfer emails from my old Windows Vista machine to the Windows 7 laptop.

Congratulations on the new purchase; I too bought a Windows 7 Sony VAIO laptop a month back. Unfortunately because of an important change made by Microsoft, users find themselves quite at sea trying to figure out how to use email on the new operating system. It all started with Windows Vista in which the popular and much-loved Outlook Express was missing and replaced by Windows Mail. Similarly, on Windows 7, Windows Mail was phased out and a new email program was introduced. It was (confusingly) called Windows Live Mail. In this post, I will first brief you on the Windows 7 email program and then tell you how to move and transfer email from Windows Vista to Windows 7.
