Download Live email

I have been using live.com as my email. I want to download my mail to my computer and work with it there … offline … comfortably. I HATE the way Live has their display set up. I find their “features” slow and cumbersome. Even though most of that is probably because I have a slow connection… and I cannot do anything about it. I have been floundering around for 2 months trying to resolve this problem. Can you give me any direction??? Thanks. (I have VISTA … ughhhhh)

Downloading messages from an online account and storing them on your computer requires the use of an email program or an email client in geeky language. Does Outlook Express, Outlook, or Windows Mail ring a bell? These are all email programs. So which one should you use to download Live email? More »

Configure Hotmail on Windows Live Mail

Posted on August 14, 2010 under Hotmail, Windows Live Mail  |  6 Comments

By default, Windows Live Mail, the recommended free email program for Windows 7, sets up a Hotmail email address using the HTTP protocol. This keeps the account on your computer in tune (or synced) with the one on the server. But now with the availability of free Hotmail POP access, one can also configure the account on Windows Live Mail through the Post Office Protocol. And why should you do this? Read on. More »

After having Windows Live Mail on an XP computer, does the Outlook Express installation remain in case I want to revert to it? Can I transfer new messages from Live Mail to O.E., cleanly uninstall Windows Live Mail and resume using the old email program?
Violetta Louis

Good questions indeed! And I suppose most people who want to use Windows Live Mail on XP would like to know the answers… so here goes. More »

Windows Live Mail Inbox

I installed Windows Live Mail and imported all my e-mail accounts. Now I have folders for every single account on the left hand side. How do I get rid of them or hide them? I want a make it look as close as possible to OE or Windows Mail so I want one Windows Live Mail inbox to collect all email. Thanks
Robert Bahna

The layout of Windows Live Mail, the default email program on Windows 7 computers, is somewhat different from Outlook Express (XP) and Windows Mail (Vista). For instance, instead of a single inbox, Windows Live Mail gives one to each email account that’s configured in the program. Now this may not be a big deal when you have only one email address. But in case of multiple accounts, the incoming messages are automatically sorted and placed in their own inboxes. This is one of the pet peeves of former users of Outlook Express and Windows Mail who have always worked from a single inbox… and pretty used it.

Difference between Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail

Posted on April 10, 2010 under Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail  |  4 Comments

I have been a loyal user of Outlook Express for many years and understand that this program has been replaced by Windows Live Mail on Windows 7 operating system. Can I use all my four email addresses in Windows 7 – even Hotmail and Gmail? It would be nice to know the differences between Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail before I take the plunge. Thankful for any advice and suggestions.
Abraham Pureen

You’ve rightly learnt that Windows Live Mail is the default email software on Windows 7 just like Outlook Express was on Windows XP. The basic function of these programs is to download email from the online server and store in on your computer. However, there are many stark differences between Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail. But before I get into that, let me answer your first question.

Error number 0X800CCC0D – Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail

Posted on March 27, 2010 under Email, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail  |  1 Comment

How to fix 0X800CCC0D error I receive in Outlook Express version 6? I want to check for new messages and the program is showing this error number.
Milton Banks

The error number 0X800CCC0D is shown by Microsoft email clients, the popular Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail, when the program cannot find the host (refer image below). As you probably know, when someone sends you an email, it doesn’t arrive on your computer straightaway. It is first stored on your email account on a server, a computer connected to the internet 24/7. To download the messages to your computer, you need to use an email client/program.

Set up BTInternet email account on Windows 7 – Windows Live Mail

Posted on March 23, 2010 under Email, ISP, Windows 7, Windows Live Mail  |  1 Comment

Windows Live Mail is the latest email client from Microsoft and comes as the default email program on Windows 7. FYI, it can be installed on Windows XP and Vista computers too. Even though the program is based on the popular Outlook Express email client (as per Microsoft), message organization and interface of the two are quite different.

To add your BTInternet email account in Windows 7 I recommend using Windows Live Mail – you can actually employ any email client; read the last line in this post. Once the account has been set up on Windows Live Mail, you would be able to download and store email on the local computer. Multiple BT Yahoo accounts can all be added and configured in Windows Live Mail.

Get Shaw email on Windows 7 – Windows Live Mail

Posted on March 21, 2010 under Email, ISP, Windows Live Mail  |  3 Comments

I had Outlook Express installed on my old system and used the Shaw email with it. Now I have a new Windows 7 laptop. How can I get Shaw email on this computer? I don’t see any email program that I can use and desperately need to check the account for some important messages.
Michael Dickerson

Though Outlook Express is missing on Windows 7 operating system, a nicer and better, as some may opine, alternative is available in Windows Live Mail. However, this new email client differs significantly from Outlook Express in the way it organizes email accounts and messages. There is no common inbox because each account that’s added in the program gets its own set of five folders – “Inbox“, “Drafts“, “Sent items“, “Junk e-mail” and “Deleted items“. So if you have 3 Shaw email accounts, you’ll end up with a 3 inboxes and 15 folders!

Windows Live email required on Windows 7?

Posted on March 20, 2010 under Windows Live Mail  |  Leave a comment

I have recently purchased a laptop with Microsoft Windows 7 installed. It appears that I need Windows Live email (Hotmail) or Google email address (Gmail) to use it. If this is indeed the case, how on earth do I install my current email address that I have been using on Outlook Express?
Jeremy Furness

Another round of name changes at Microsoft has lead to many of its loyal users failing to differentiate between different products and services. The web-based email, Hotmail, was put under the ‘Live’ umbrella and changed to Windows Live Hotmail. Outlook Express, the popular email client, gave way to Windows Mail on Vista which itself was replaced by Windows Live Mail on Windows 7. Hence it comes as no surprise that people like Jeremy get confused with the “Windows Live” nomenclature.

To clarify – You doesn’t need a Windows Live email (Hotmail) account or a Gmail address to use the Windows Live Mail program on the Windows 7 operating system.

Use Windstream email on Windows 7 – Windows Live Mail

Posted on March 16, 2010 under ISP, Windows 7, Windows Live Mail  |  1 Comment

Because of the inadequate space available on the email accounts (just 50MB, at the time of writing), it is a good idea set up the Windstream email on your Windows 7 computer using the free Windows Live Mail program. Once this is done, you don’t need to delete messages to recover space or worry about exceeding the allotted quota, assuming there is enough free space available on your computer’s hard disk.
