Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail: Windows 7
Posted on November 10, 2009 under Email, Outlook Express, Windows 7, Windows Live Mail | 16 Comments
If I upgrade to Windows 7 from XP I lose Outlook Express and have to use Windows Live Mail. Will everything I have in my Outlook accounts be transferred over to Live Mail or will I lose what I have saved? I have many, many emails and information I have saved that I want to retain.

The excitement of purchasing and using a new computer is generally dampened by a flood of questions that come to mind when the package finally is opened and the system is set up. The most troubling issue is often related to email, especially how to transfer email from the older computer to the new one. And Microsoft hasn’t been of much help because they have been changing default email clients faster than releasing new versions of their Windows operating system.

Outlook window opens – email is Yahoo
Posted on November 10, 2009 under Email, Outlook Express, Yahoo | Leave a comment
My email is Yahoo. When I want to email something from the net an Outlook window opens. If I type my message in this window and hit send, I get an error message and the email goes nowhere. What do I need to do? Thanks
Jimmy
For the sake of other readers, let me take a step back and describe this issue in greater detail.
Jimmy comes across an email address on a web page. When he clicks on it, an Outlook window with the email address in the “To:” field opens. Jimmy quickly realizes that this might be a way to send email. He puts in the email subject and composes the message. Everything seems fine but when he hits the send, an error message is displayed. Probably, the Outlook window remains open which further confirms that the email hasn’t left his computer.
OK Jimmy here is what you have to do.

I’d like to set up my Outlook Express email account but I’m having problems. I’ve gone over the instructions provided by you but I don’t know what are the Outlook Express incoming and outgoing email servers. Could you please help me use the Comcast email on my computer?
Antoinette Betty
Outlook Express, as most of you would know, is an email client that lets you download and store email messages on your computer. The first step in using Outlook Express is to setup a new email account. And for that you need to know the following:

I have a computer running Windows XP. Can I use Outlook Express as well as Windows Live Mail? Or will having the two programs together create problems?
Brian Dunn
For those who don’t know, both Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail are free email clients from Microsoft. In fact, there is one more, Windows Mail which comes pre-installed with the Vista operating system.

Is Outlook Express exclusive to Internet Explorer? Can it by used with Firefox?
William
Outlook Express and Mozilla Firefox are different programs – the former is an email client while the latter is a web browser. It’s not surprising that William is confused as Outlook Express was bundled with Internet Explorer browser (till version 6).

Use Gmail with Outlook Express

I want to use Gmail with Outlook Express – how do I do that? Can I send Gmail emails from Outlook Express or do I need to log in at my Gmail account every time? Can I download all Gmail emails to my computer? Is it possible to keep one copy of the email on Gmail and one on my computer?
Wilfred Jose
Lots of questions… and the answers follow.
To use Gmail with Outlook Express, you first need to set up the account in the email program. This is quite a simple process. After configuring the Gmail account in Outlook Express you need to connect to the internet and download messages from the online Gmail web server. The email messages would then be stored on your computer and accessible by opening the Outlook Express program.

Outlook Express with Comcast and Bellsouth

I have used Outlook Express with Comcast email for years. Now I am moving out of state and will be taking up Bellsouth.net internet service. I want to save any emails that I get during my moving and relocating, be able to see them after set up in new location, and continue service. How do I get Outlook Express to work with Comcast and Bellsouth without losing my emails?
Pam

Since you’ve been using Outlook Express with Comcast account for some time, the email client is already configured and would be storing the messages on your computer. Changing the service from one ISP to another would not interrupt email messaging unless, of course, you cancel the old account.

Outlook Express slow because of Message Rules
Posted on September 20, 2009 under Outlook Express | Leave a comment
I received an interesting feedback from a visitor today. He has 12 email accounts configured in the Outlook Express program. Looking for ways to organize and automatically sort the email messages, he stumbled on the Message Rules article. Overzealous with the new information, he created tens of message rules in Outlook Express. The outcome was not something he expected – Outlook Express became very slow!
