Missing your old email software on Windows 7? Here are some programs which are similar to Outlook Express.

Programs similar to Outlook Express

Posted on August 20, 2010 under Answers, Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

Since O.E. doesn’t work on my new Windows 7 laptop, what can I use? I am looking for programs similar to Outlook Express.
Jerry Rochelle

Sadly, Outlook Express is missing on Windows 7 and there is no way you can get it on that operating system – at least that’s what I have learnt. Maybe there is a way to hack into Internet Explorer and the program installation file but I suppose this would entail too much effort. So which email program can you use on Windows 7? Yes, there is Windows Live Mail, but, as most users would tell you, it’s quite different from Outlook Express. However, there is hope!

Download Live email

I have been using live.com as my email. I want to download my mail to my computer and work with it there … offline … comfortably. I HATE the way Live has their display set up. I find their “features” slow and cumbersome. Even though most of that is probably because I have a slow connection… and I cannot do anything about it. I have been floundering around for 2 months trying to resolve this problem. Can you give me any direction??? Thanks. (I have VISTA … ughhhhh)
Ruby

Downloading messages from an online account and storing them on your computer requires the use of an email program or an email client in geeky language. Does Outlook Express, Outlook, or Windows Mail ring a bell? These are all email programs. So which one should you use to download Live email? More »

Email deactivated?

Posted on May 28, 2010 under Outlook Express  |  2 Comments

In my old job I had a Hotmail email which was reserved only for official communications. It’s been 18 months since I quit but today I had a need to use that email account again. All my efforts have gone in vain because Hotmail keeps telling me that the email is deactivated and no longer available. I really want this Hotmail email again because I am expecting an important message. Is there a way I can get it back?
Danny Plumb

If you haven’t used a free Hotmail account for more than 9 months, the email would be deactivated! Or, to put it more correctly, the account will be closed by the service and all the messages (and other information) will be deleted.

So if your email address has expired, is there a way to get it back? Would you be able to own the account once again? There is no direct answer to this question. The email address in question may or may not be available… and we’ll get into this in a moment.

Send executable (exe) file as email attachment through Gmail

Posted on May 28, 2010 under Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

I wanted to send an executable (.exe) file as email attachment from Gmail to a friend of mine who also has Gmail. Unfortunately, it is not letting me upload this executable file. I also cannot send this file when I compress it as a zip. I learnt that Gmail does not allow exe files. Can you help?
Akshay

Gmail will not let you send and receive executable files as email attachments. Google does this to protect their servers and, I suppose, the users’ computer. And, yes, even if you cloak it as a compressed zip file, the .exe will still not be uploaded on Gmail. But I could manage to do this successfully!

Access Outlook Express from different computer

Posted on May 27, 2010 under Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

My home and office computers have Windows XP and Windows 7, respectively. Sometimes I need to check emails on my home computer from office. How can I access my Outlook Express email from a different (office) computer? Also, how can I attach pics in a format that makes them smaller? They only attach as very large photos right now and it takes too long to send out and receive. THANK YOU
Louise

Outlook Express is an email client that lets you download and store email on a computer. Generally, once the messages are downloaded by the program they are deleted from the server, though you can change this feature by modifying the account settings in Outlook Express.

Posted on May 27, 2010 under Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

I have Windows Live Mail and when I delete an email, it does not get removed on webmail. Thus, when I’m away from my computer and have to use webmail through the Cox homepage, all the mail I deleted on Windows Live Mail is still on my webmail email account. This didn’t happen with Windows Mail or Outlook Express. Very confusing, can you help….Thank you
Jay Deubel

To have Windows Live Mail delete the email on webmail, you need to change the settings in the program. This is a quite simple affair; please follow the instructions below.

Why I decided not to buy the iPad?

Ever since I got an iPhone, I had wished for a device that could sort of duplicate the functionality and had a larger screen. The iPad fits the bill. But, lord, couldn’t they have improved it a little?

Import contacts from computer to Windows Live Hotmail

Posted on May 27, 2010 under Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

How can I import contacts that I have on my computer to the Windows Live Hotmail email account. The information is in Windows Contacts and I want to get this contacts list to the online email account. I suppose this would not be a difficult job but I am confused and not very proficient with computers.
Zubair Shah

It is indeed quite easy to import contacts information that you have on your computer to a Windows Live Hotmail email account. All it takes is to export the Windows Contacts data to a CSV (Comma Separated Values) file and upload it to the online email service.

Outlook Express vacation reply

Posted on April 10, 2010 under Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

Can you tell me how to set up Outlook Express vacation reply? I would like people to receive a “Do not send email” while I am away.
Margaret Warren

You can have Outlook Express send a vacation reply by using the message rules feature. Though it’s quite simple to create a message rule in Outlook Express, it works only when the email client is running. Thus, if your computer is switched off while you are away on vacation, no replies will be sent. But don’t be disheartened – at the end of this post, I provide a couple of options, one of which may just work for you – let us first tackle the issue at hand.

Roadrunner email on Outlook Express

Posted on April 10, 2010 under Email, ISP, Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

All email from your Roadrunner account can be downloaded and saved on your computer with the help of email programs. And Outlook Express is probably the most popular client in the world. Unfortunately, the development and support for it has been stopped and Microsoft urges all users to migrate to Windows Live Mail desktop client.

Outlook Express was the default email program on XP and some older versions of the Windows operating system. It was replaced with Windows Mail on Vista. Both these programs have given way to Windows Live Mail. This new email client is already installed on Windows 7 computers can be quickly loaded on XP and Vista as well.
