SumoPaint is a free online paint program created using Adobe Air Technology and rivals the company’s famous graphics editor, Photoshop. Get avatar in minutes – cartoon or photo avatar

Posted on January 7, 2010 under Images & photos  |  1 Comment

Though the doppelme.com service, detailed in how to make an avatar, gives you a cute cartoon picture, the options are kind of limited. Lots of visitors asked how they can get a photo avatar by which they mean converting their photograph to an avatar image. This is quite an easy thing and there are two ways to go about it. The first involves using an image editor with which you change a photo into an avatar… but this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. The simpler approach is to use one of the free services available online.

Put transparent watermark on photographs and pictures

Posted on January 7, 2010 under Images & photos  |  Leave a comment

I am an avid lepidopterist and want to put pictures of my collection on a blog for sale. I read that one of the best ways to protect ownership of digital photographs is through the use of watermarks. Initially I would be using my digital camera but would like to employ a professional photographer later on. Could you tell me the easiest way to put a transparent watermark on these photographs?
Marc Cooley

A watermark when added to an image changes it… so the first thing to remember is to make a copy of the original photographs and work on them. Now to make a watermark, all we need is an image editor and there are tons of these available. For example, the free online Pixlr.com editor is more than sufficient for our needs and can quickly be employed to put a transparent watermark on photographs and pictures. By the way, I hope by “transparent watermark” you mean one which is semi-opaque and lets the underlying image show through… because that’s what I have assumed!

What is a watermark?

Posted on January 7, 2010 under Images & photos, Internet Tips  |  1 Comment

A digital watermark is generally a small image or text that is placed on a larger image to specify and/or protect ownership. Though, skilled image manipulators can remove a watermark from an image, it still serves as the best way to prevent people from copying and using your photos and pictures without first asking for permission.

Hey, I wanted to know if it’s possible to put an image in an email – I mean directly embed an image in message and not as an attachment. Can this be done?

As you probably know, any digital file can be sent with email. The standard practice is to send the file (or files) as an email attachment. But is there a way to put an image “inside” an email message and not as an attachment? Yes, there is! In fact there are many! And in this post I shall be detailing two methods to do this with links to a few more!

Convert photo to polaroid

Posted on November 8, 2009 under Images & photos  |  Leave a comment

A week back I needed to convert a photo to a polaroid (digital, obviously) to be used on a web site design. This was quickly done using our trusted Photoshop program. The client liked the “polaroid effect” so much that they asked us to do it for tens of other photographs. Now, we are quite adept at Photoshop so this was not a problem especially when the native image was in layer and we simply needed to substitute one photo with another. However, it set me thinking – there would be many people out there who would love to convert a photo to a digital polaroid and there would be many services on the web through which one can accomplish this.

I was correct and here are several resources and programs I found online which will convert photographs to polaroids. Please note, I haven’t tried all, only some, and the results are superb.

Extract color from image: get color codes

Posted on November 7, 2009 under Images & photos, Web Design  |  1 Comment

If you are a web site designer, I’m sure you will appreciate this neat tool. Typically, clients provide the designer with images and photographs around which the web site layout needs to be created. The first step is to find the colors that will complement these images and photographs. I know you can use the dropper tool of your favorite image editing program (the popular Photoshop that any web design worth his salt should have) but this gives the color of the selected pixel only. What designers actually need are the predominant colors in the image.
