Configure Hotmail on Windows Live Mail
Posted on August 14, 2010 under Hotmail, Windows Live Mail | 6 Comments
By default, Windows Live Mail, the recommended free email program for Windows 7, sets up a Hotmail email address using the HTTP protocol. This keeps the account on your computer in tune (or synced) with the one on the server. But now with the availability of free Hotmail POP access, one can also configure the account on Windows Live Mail through the Post Office Protocol. And why should you do this? Read on. More »

This account is currently blocked from sending messages – Hotmail problem
Posted on July 26, 2010 under Hotmail | 10 Comments
I’ve been using Hotmail for years but yesterday it developed a problem all of a sudden because of which I am not able to send any emails. The error I get is – “This account is currently blocked from sending messages. If you don’t think you’ve violated the Windows Live Terms of Use, please contact customer support.”
I am completely confused and don’t understand how I could have ever ‘violated the Windows Live Terms of Use’. Also I want to know how to contact Hotmail customer support because I need to unblock the account ASAP?
Willie Green
Typically, Hotmail throws the ‘This account is currently blocked from sending messages’ message when it believes that the subscriber has violated the Terms of Use (TOU); for example, by indulging in activities representative of spammers. Unfortunately, in most cases, people don’t realize that their seemingly harmless dispatching of email can trigger off the automated check on Hotmail. To understand why this happens and how to unblock the Hotmail account, read on. More »
Hotmail not attaching original message to forwards and replies
Posted on July 7, 2010 under Hotmail | 3 Comments
I use Hotmail email and am facing a particular problem. When I compose a reply or forward an email the original text is not included in the message. This has happened all of a sudden. How do I correct this?
Deidre Taylor
This indeed seemed a perplexing issue. The first step was to login at Hotmail to make sure things were fine at my account. I was using the Chrome web browser and saw no problems. I then implemented what I fondly called the “browser test” (my terminology) and started checking with other web browsers. It quickly came to light that with Firefox Hotmail was not attaching the original message when forwarding or composing an email.

Posted on July 3, 2010 under Hotmail | 20 Comments
How can I contact the Hotmail customer service? I need to speak to them over the phone because I have a problem in my email and it’s kind of personal. I would very grateful if you can let me know the Hotmail phone numbers. Thank you
Shanta Scott
Hotmail was probably the world’s first service to offer free email accounts. It was started by a couple of young entrepreneurs and soon bought over by Microsoft for an astronomical sum of money. Hotmail, now known as Windows Live Hotmail, has hundreds of millions of users spread around the globe.
Hotmail phone number
As you can understand, with such a large subscriber base, it is virtually impossible to cater to the each and every individual over phone. But I was able to find out a Hotmail phone number… actually two.

Posted on July 2, 2010 under Email, Gmail, Hotmail | 3 Comments
In an earlier post I described two methods by which you can link email accounts – Gmail to Hotmail. You could either forward messages or add the Gmail account to the MSN email service. However, today, I shall tell you how to accomplish the opposite; i.e. get Hotmail email in your Gmail account. You would then be able to save time and check messages from a single account.

Hotmail vacation reply missing
Posted on May 28, 2010 under Hotmail | 7 Comments
Why is the Hotmail vacation reply missing from my account? I only appear to have the first three options. What do you do if under the ‘Manage your account’ heading, there is no option saying “Send automated vacation replies”? Is it a problem with my computer?
Paul Sullivan
Firstly, there is nothing wrong with your computer; this should put a lot of your fears to rest. However, if the Hotmail vacation reply is missing, there is definitely something amiss with your email account.
Sometimes the Windows Live staff disables the vacation auto-replay on certain Hotmail email accounts which means that this feature will not be available. You would also not be able to make changes to any vacation auto-reply message that has been set up but this of no consequence because no emails will be sent while the functionality is inactive.

How do I link email accounts – Gmail and Hotmail?
Posted on May 27, 2010 under Email, Gmail, Hotmail | 4 Comments
I have been an old user of Hotmail email and have recently created a Gmail account because it was required for a specific use. However, I wouldn’t like to waste time each day checking these two accounts one by one. Is there a way I can get all my email at one place? I would be thankful if you can tell me how to link the two email accounts.
Irfaan
You can easily get all messages that come to your Gmail account at Hotmail. There are two ways to link the two email accounts; either forward all Gmail email or add it to your Hotmail account. Thus, all messages will be collected at one place and this would avoid having to log in at each account individually.

Hotmail automatic login

My computer automatically opens one of my Hotmail email addresses and will not allow me to use a password or choose another email address. How do I correct it as I don’t want this automatic login from Hotmail? I want to enter my email and password each time.
Laurie
The gateway to your Hotmail email account is its login page. At the time of writing, this page has two sections – right and left; refer the image below. The one on the right has the login fields, one for the Windows Live ID and the other for the password. Below these are a couple of options that can help you access email faster. How? Read on…

Transfer contacts from Windows Live Hotmail (MSN) email account
Thanks to your instructions, I was able to change my Hotmail email address; I actually created a new email account as the old one was getting a lot of spam. I now want to know how to transfer the Contacts from my old Hotmail email account to the new Windows Live (MSN) email address.
Hank Jacobus
The easiest way to transfer the contacts information across Windows Live Hotmail email accounts is to use the export and import functionality. This is as simple as it sounds and we shall use a CSV file. The screenshots and steps described below have been worked out on Microsoft’s free email service – whether your email address ends in msn.com, hotmail.com, live.com…
