Filter or block unwanted emails

Posted on August 18, 2010 under Email, Hotmail  |  Leave a comment

I have some acquaintances that are constantly bombarding me with emails. I’ve gotten to the point when I say to myself : No More !!! These messages reach the email inbox directly and I have to spend considerable time trying to weed them out. Is there a way to filter or block unwanted emails? Thank you in advance.

An email message sent to your account will typically be delivered directly to the inbox. However, there are a couple of ways to change this default action at your Hotmail account. More »

Download Live email

I have been using live.com as my email. I want to download my mail to my computer and work with it there … offline … comfortably. I HATE the way Live has their display set up. I find their “features” slow and cumbersome. Even though most of that is probably because I have a slow connection… and I cannot do anything about it. I have been floundering around for 2 months trying to resolve this problem. Can you give me any direction??? Thanks. (I have VISTA … ughhhhh)

Downloading messages from an online account and storing them on your computer requires the use of an email program or an email client in geeky language. Does Outlook Express, Outlook, or Windows Mail ring a bell? These are all email programs. So which one should you use to download Live email? More »

Hotmail automatically deleted my email?

Posted on August 15, 2010 under Hotmail  |  1 Comment

I logged in at my account yesterday (like I do daily) and saw that Hotmail has automatically deleted email. I can no longer find 5 years worth of email. Where have they all gone? I am really worried – there were some very important messages. How can I get those emails that were removed from my account? Also, can you tell me why this has happened? I trust that Hotmail, being such a popular service, will not make its users go through this ordeal.

The small print on most of these free email services clearly states that they cannot be held responsible for the loss of information (messages and/or contact list). Thus, if Hotmail has ‘automatically’ deleted email from the account, don’t put the blame squarely on them. It was your duty to take a backup of the Hotmail email. Anyway, on the bright side, the chances of recovering the missing messages are pretty high. More »

Configure Hotmail on Windows Live Mail

Posted on August 14, 2010 under Hotmail, Windows Live Mail  |  Leave a comment

By default, Windows Live Mail, the recommended free email program for Windows 7, sets up a Hotmail email address using the HTTP protocol. This keeps the account on your computer in tune (or synced) with the one on the server. But now with the availability of free Hotmail POP access, one can also configure the account on Windows Live Mail through the Post Office Protocol. And why should you do this? Read on. More »

Hotmail email limit

Is there a limit on sending emails from Hotmail? If I want to send more than 250-300 emails per day, is it possible? My father’s work requires a lot of emailing.
Aisha

This account is currently blocked from sending messages – Hotmail problem

Posted on July 26, 2010 under Hotmail  |  1 Comment

I’ve been using Hotmail for years but yesterday it developed a problem all of a sudden because of which I am not able to send any emails. The error I get is – “This account is currently blocked from sending messages. If you don’t think you’ve violated the Windows Live Terms of Use, please contact customer support.”
I am completely confused and don’t understand how I could have ever ‘violated the Windows Live Terms of Use’. Also I want to know how to contact Hotmail customer support because I need to unblock the account ASAP?
Willie Green

Typically, Hotmail throws the ‘This account is currently blocked from sending messages’ message when it believes that the subscriber has violated the Terms of Use (TOU); for example, by indulging in activities representative of spammers. Unfortunately, in most cases, people don’t realize that their seemingly harmless dispatching of email can trigger off the automated check on Hotmail. To understand why this happens and how to unblock the Hotmail account, read on. More »

Hotmail not attaching original message to forwards and replies

Posted on July 7, 2010 under Hotmail  |  3 Comments

I use Hotmail email and am facing a particular problem. When I compose a reply or forward an email the original text is not included in the message. This has happened all of a sudden. How do I correct this?
Deidre Taylor

This indeed seemed a perplexing issue. The first step was to login at Hotmail to make sure things were fine at my account. I was using the Chrome web browser and saw no problems. I then implemented what I fondly called the “browser test” (my terminology) and started checking with other web browsers. It quickly came to light that with Firefox Hotmail was not attaching the original message when forwarding or composing an email.

Hotmail phone number – contact customer service

Posted on July 3, 2010 under Hotmail  |  4 Comments

How can I contact the Hotmail customer service? I need to speak to them over the phone because I have a problem in my email and it’s kind of personal. I would very grateful if you can let me know the Hotmail phone numbers. Thank you
Shanta Scott

Hotmail was probably the world’s first service to offer free email accounts. It was started by a couple of young entrepreneurs and soon bought over by Microsoft for an astronomical sum of money. Hotmail, now known as Windows Live Hotmail, has hundreds of millions of users spread around the globe.

Get Hotmail email on Gmail

Posted on July 2, 2010 under Email, Gmail, Hotmail  |  Leave a comment

In an earlier post I described two methods by which you can link email accounts – Gmail to Hotmail. You could either forward messages or add the Gmail account to the MSN email service. However, today, I shall tell you how to accomplish the opposite; i.e. get Hotmail email in your Gmail account. You would then be able to save time and check messages from a single account.

Hotmail vacation reply missing

Posted on May 28, 2010 under Hotmail  |  6 Comments

Why is the Hotmail vacation reply missing from my account? I only appear to have the first three options. What do you do if under the ‘Manage your account’ heading, there is no option saying “Send automated vacation replies”? Is it a problem with my computer?
Paul Sullivan

Firstly, there is nothing wrong with your computer; this should put a lot of your fears to rest. However, if the Hotmail vacation reply is missing, there is definitely something amiss with your email account.

Sometimes the Windows Live staff disables the vacation auto-replay on certain Hotmail email accounts which means that this feature will not be available. You would also not be able to make changes to any vacation auto-reply message that has been set up but this of no consequence because no emails will be sent while the functionality is inactive.
