In an earlier post I described two methods by which you can link email accounts – Gmail to Hotmail. You could either forward messages or add the Gmail account to the MSN email service. However, today, I shall tell you how to accomplish the opposite; i.e. get Hotmail email in your Gmail account. You would then be able to save time and check messages from a single account.

Gmail spam email – risks

Posted on May 28, 2010 under Gmail  |  Leave a comment

What are the risks (if any) of opening a message that is in the Gmail SPAM folder? (This may be necessary to confirm is a message is legit, and should be moved to the Inbox).
Mona Barresi

One of the much touted features of the free Gmail email account is its spam filter which scans all incoming email. Any message that raises a red flag is automatically moved to the Gmail spam folder where it lies for a few days before being deleted permanently by the system. For details, read how does the Gmail spam filter work?

How do I link email accounts – Gmail and Hotmail?

Posted on May 27, 2010 under Email, Gmail, Hotmail  |  Leave a comment

I have been an old user of Hotmail email and have recently created a Gmail account because it was required for a specific use. However, I wouldn’t like to waste time each day checking these two accounts one by one. Is there a way I can get all my email at one place? I would be thankful if you can tell me how to link the two email accounts.
Irfaan

You can easily get all messages that come to your Gmail account at Hotmail. There are two ways to link the two email accounts; either forward all Gmail email or add it to your Hotmail account. Thus, all messages will be collected at one place and this would avoid having to log in at each account individually.

Can I keep my email address if I change to Gmail?

Posted on February 16, 2010 under Email, Gmail  |  2 Comments

Can I keep my email address that I have had for years if I were to change to Gmail from my present service provider?
Brenda

Brenda, you write to me from a Road Runner address, so I assume they are your present email service providers. Now if you were to get a Gmail email address, nothing will happen to the present one and you can continue using it. Thus, you can keep the email address from Road Runner as long as you do not cancel their subscription.

Two Gmail accounts

Posted on February 16, 2010 under Email, Gmail  |  2 Comments

Is it possible to work with more than one Gmail account on one computer? I have one and have just created another for my wife. Can we use the two Gmail addresses from our home computer?
Babilas Lungu

Gmail is a popular web-based email service from the Google. Though a late starter, the company was able to capitalize on its reputation in the search engine market and quickly snatched a lot of subscribers from the main competitors – Yahoo!Mail and Hotmail – by offering 1GB storage space and many excellent features. You can quickly create a free Gmail account by filling out a simple online form which gives you an email address immediately – the Gmail account is ready to use once the form has been submitted successfully. I know many people who hold multiple Gmail addresses – typically, one is for personal correspondence and the others for business. So can you use two Gmail accounts from the same computer? Yes! And here is what you should know.

2 Gmail email accounts issue – delete and keep

Posted on November 25, 2009 under Gmail  |  Leave a comment

I have two accounts with Google. I want to delete/remove one of them. All the information I can find on Google help, etc., doesn’t say if removing account one, will affect account two? I do not want to impact my account two in any way. Is it safe to remove account one and still retain account two? The emails are my primary concern. I understand that all emails in account one will be permanently removed. I think each email is separate but I’m uncertain? Your response would be very helpful.
Ron Applebach

Maintaining two accounts at the same service can be quite a challenge especially when there are many people using them and some of them are still learning the ropes. For instance, in a previous post I mentioned an issue of using two Hotmail accounts from the same computer – the person who had written to me found himself quite at sea. Now tackling the immediate problem – Can deleting one Gmail account affect the other? The quick answer is – NO! If you have 2 Gmail accounts and delete one, nothing ‘should’ happen to the other – but care needs to be taken.

Use Gmail with Outlook Express

Posted on November 6, 2009 under Gmail, Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

I want to use Gmail with Outlook Express – how do I do that? Can I send Gmail emails from Outlook Express or do I need to log in at my Gmail account every time? Can I download all Gmail emails to my computer? Is it possible to keep one copy of the email on Gmail and one on my computer?
Wilfred Jose

Lots of questions… and the answers follow.
To use Gmail with Outlook Express, you first need to set up the account in the email program which is quite a simple process. After configuring the Gmail account in Outlook Express you need to connect to the internet and download messages from the online Gmail web server. The email messages would then be stored on your computer and accessible by opening the Outlook Express program.

Gmail storage space – how much is it today?

Posted on September 30, 2009 under Gmail  |  2 Comments

Google’s Gmail was launched with great fanfare – all free email accounts had 1GB storage space which was hundreds of times more than what was offered by other popular email services esp. Hotmail and Yahoo. Though the fight for providing the biggest storage has kind of ended with Yahoo Mail doling out unlimited storage space, Google has taken a steadier approach with the Infinity+ plan. I’m not sure if we will ever get unlimited storage on Gmail but it has been increasing over the years.

Gmail storage space – have you checked it today?

Now here is something strange. As per the gradual increase promised by Google, the storage space on the email account would have been close to 7.4 GB today. But it seems the Gmail home page is showing a much lower value – only 2.7GB!

How is Gmail different from other email services?

Posted on September 24, 2009 under Gmail, Google  |  Leave a comment

Can you please let me have details on Gmail and why it is different from other mailing accounts?
AnnaRox

To understand how Gmail is different from other email services, we need to go back in time to the day when it was officially announced. Gmail not only changed the free email landscape but also the internet as a whole. And there are many things that make it special – the initial launch, the bundled free features, continual improvements and additions via Gmail Labs.
