The popular ISP, Shaw Communications (www.Shaw.ca), is a Canadian company that offers internet access in addition to telephone and television services. Each internet connection also comes with a free email account that can be accessed via the web browser (webmail) or through an email program). Webmail is definitely the easier method of accessing your email messages and involves going through the Shaw email login page.

Windows Live email required on Windows 7?

I have recently purchased a laptop with Microsoft Windows 7 installed. It appears that I need Windows Live email (Hotmail) or Google email address (Gmail) to use it. If this is indeed the case, how on earth do I install my current email address that I have been using on Outlook Express?

Another round of name changes at Microsoft has lead to many of its loyal users failing to differentiate between different products and services. The web-based email, Hotmail, was put under the ‘Live’ umbrella and changed to Windows Live Hotmail. Outlook Express, the popular email client, gave way to Windows Mail on Vista which itself was replaced by Windows Live Mail on Windows 7. Hence it comes as no surprise that people like Jeremy get confused with the “Windows Live” nomenclature.
To clarify – You doesn’t need a Windows Live email (Hotmail) account or a Gmail address to use the Windows Live Mail program on the Windows 7 operating system.

Windows Live email account verification

I’ve learnt that some Widnows Live email (Hotmail) account users are repeatedly asked for account verification. This generally happens when one is about to send an email. A simple message – “We need to ask you to verify your account. After you do that, please come back and click Send again. This helps us fight spammers.” – is displayed at the top and the system waits for your actions; refer image below.

Cannot delete email in Hotmail
There was a significant number of emails I received today from users who complained that they cannot delete email stored in their Hotmail account. This seems to be the latest issue plaguing the web based email service. Obviously, if an important function such as email deletion breaks down, people are bound to be quite irritated. So is there a solution? Can you get in touch with the Hotmail support staff who would then look into look into this problem?

Cannot open Hotmail email account?

I’ve been having a horrendous time lately. I cannot open my Hotmail email and have tried all what I know. The password is correct and but the page doesn’t show up with my emails.

No success with Hotmail sign up. I am told that the password is incorrect and I have to type it again. This is very frustrating because I need to open some really important emails on this Hotmail account.

Ever since my son was here on holidays, I cannot open my Hotmail because I see only his emails. Earlier, I used to click on the icon and my emails would come up. What is going on? Where have my emails gone? I hope they haven’t vanished because I had some really important stuff there.

Charter email login

I got an internet connection from Charter communication recently. I was told that I get an email address too. How can I use this Charter email login on my new computer? I like to know the different options I have and which one is better?

Most email accounts can be accessed in two ways – through a web browser or an email client. The first option is definitely simpler because no additional software is required – all programs you need already exist on your computer. The other option requires you to configure the account using Charter incoming and outgoing servers; refer how to set up Charter.net email on Windows 7: Windows Live Mail client. This will download email to your computer so that it’s accessible even without an active internet connection.

Web site control and ownership

I have a domain name and a working website on free hosting at the moment. I intend to upgrade to a better form of hosting. However, the problem I have is a breakdown in communication with the person who put my site for me. He seems to be able to tweak and change things as and when I want him to, although can leave me waiting. And for this reason I want to take control of my business and site, so to speak. However, he hasn’t been very forthcoming and I don’t know what to do. I have feeling he doesn’t want to hand over web site control! I really want the web site control and ownership – can this be done? And would I be able to do changes and tweaks etc. once I have upgraded hosting and maybe purchase a web package?

A professional ‘web site‘ consists of a domain name, the web hosting account and the actual web site files (web pages and other multimedia files). The ownership and the control of these can lie with different individuals. Once you consider these three ‘segments’ as individual entities, understanding web site control and ownership becomes easy to explain and to grasp.

Sky incoming and outgoing email server

I know it is possible to get Sky emails on your computer using Outlook Express. But I don’t have this program on my new Windows 7 laptop. Do I still need Sky incoming and outgoing email servers to receive the messages to my machine? There is a program called Windows Live Mail, will it help me?

A Sky email account can be set up in any email client that uses the Post Office Protocol (POP3). All the free Windows default email programs support this email protocol which means you would be able to download email from your Sky account and store them on your computer without the need of additional software.

Windows 7 browser program

A good friend of mine advised that I should have Firefox as the Windows 7 browser. But I am kind of used to Internet Explorer. Are there any major advantages in shifting to a different program?

Jonathan, I’d like to give you unbiased advice but that’s really difficult because nothing in this world is subjective! Anyway, it’s fine to use Internet Explorer as the Windows 7 browser because more than half the world employs this program to surf the web – check the web browser statistics.
Having said that, your friend is not entirely wrong and his advice holds a good bit of value.
