Make default email address

Posted on February 16, 2010 under Email, Windows 7  |  Leave a comment

I just bought a new computer and am beginning to regret the decision. I cannot send an email because it keeps saying ‘default email not installed’. I can’t figure out how to do this. I have this problem only on the new Windows computer and not the old one. What is the solution?
Jacqueline Martin

Generally, the ‘default email not installed’ pops up on new computers because an email account hasn’t been set up. The requirement for having a default email account comes when you click an email link on a web page and are displayed this message. (For those who want to know more, a link to an email address can be created from a web page with the HTML mailto attribute). The question most people should ask is whether they can make default email from their existing accounts. This is what will be dealt with on this page.

Most popular free Windows email

Posted on February 16, 2010 under Email, Internet Tips  |  1 Comment

I was thinking of creating a second email account – I already have one from my Road Runner. So I was wondering if you can give me the details of the most popular free Windows email service. Could you also help me create a free email address on this new computer.
Madison Norman

Picking up the most popular email service in the world was easy for me. I create a poll through Polldaddy.com and ran it for a few months on this web site. The response was overwhelming -more than 20,000 votes were registered. The result of this public poll, which also allowed voters to post their comments, was not in tune with what I thought, but that’s what makes us human – we all have our opinions – strong ones I may add!

Set Startpage as Chrome search engine

I wanted to add a new search engine – Startpage.com – to Chrome web browser. Though I was able to do this, the “Make Default” button stays gray. Do I need to use the “%s” because I don’t know what it means? Having a new Chrome search engine is unnecessarily complex and Google needs to work on this to make it more user friendly.

I tried out the Google’s free web browser, Chrome, a few days after it was launched and it quickly became my favourite. What I really liked from the word ‘go’ was the no-nonsense interface with a single text field in which one can enter both the URL and a search query. Though the default Chrome search engine is Google.com (of course), you can change it to one you like in a few mouse clicks.

How to stop someone’s emails

Posted on February 16, 2010 under Email, Internet Tips  |  2 Comments

I want to block someone from sending me emails….NOT JUST GOING TO THE DELETE BOX !! I DONT WANT TO SEE THIS INDIVIDUAL’S E-MAIL ANYWHERE IN MY ACCOUNT!!! This should not be rocket science!!!!! Surely, I don’t have to call this person and have a confrontation… Please send me a reasonable solution to this problem because I think I would not be the only one looking out for an answer. Thank you.
Sandra Snider

Sandra is looking for a solution to stop someone’s email from reaching her account. She is probably very frustrated with the messages she gets from this vile individual and, I suppose, wants to get rid of them automatically. Is it possible? Yes, but would require to change a few settings.

Two Gmail accounts

Posted on February 16, 2010 under Email, Gmail  |  2 Comments

Is it possible to work with more than one Gmail account on one computer? I have one and have just created another for my wife. Can we use the two Gmail addresses from our home computer?
Babilas Lungu

Gmail is a popular web-based email service from the Google. Though a late starter, the company was able to capitalize on its reputation in the search engine market and quickly snatched a lot of subscribers from the main competitors – Yahoo!Mail and Hotmail – by offering 1GB storage space and many excellent features. You can quickly create a free Gmail account by filling out a simple online form which gives you an email address immediately – the Gmail account is ready to use once the form has been submitted successfully. I know many people who hold multiple Gmail addresses – typically, one is for personal correspondence and the others for business. So can you use two Gmail accounts from the same computer? Yes! And here is what you should know.

How do I view a deleted web page?

Posted on February 16, 2010 under Internet Tips, Other  |  Leave a comment

I had bookmarked a web page but it seems unavailable now. I’ve been trying for 2 days and even the main web site does not load. Looks like the entire web site has been removed. Is there a way to view a deleted web page?
Prabir Ghose

The internet is a dynamic medium. Things change very fast – old pages are removed and new ones added. Typically, when pages and sites are modified or moved, the developers make use of redirection methods so that visitors do not find themselves at sea and get to the desired content quickly. But if the entire web site is taken down and has been offline for many days, it’s unlikely that it will come back. So how can you view a deleted web page – one which is no longer available?
