Can I upgrade Outlook Express?

Posted on September 18, 2009 under Email, Outlook Express  |  11 Comments

I’ve been using the same computer for 5 years now. Email was working fine but past few days Outlook Express has been giving me several problems. Do you think I should buy a new computer or should I just upgrade Outlook Express program? Where can I find the latest Outlook Express version?
Leslie

Everyday tons of distressed users ask me for solutions to the problems they are facing with Outlook Express. Some of them, like Leslie here, are so frustrated that they don’t mind shelling out good money for a new computer just to regain access to their email. Sadly, as I will explain in detail in this post, things are not so simple and straightforward. In brief, an Outlook Express upgrade simply doesn’t exist and a new computer may not be an ideal solution.

What is a Yahoo sign in seal? Is it imperative to create one for my account? If so, can I use my photo as the seal?
Harry D.

A personalized Yahoo account sign in seal - you can use a photo or a company logo

Yahoo sign in seal is a security measure meant to thwart phishing attacks (more on this below). But that’s not the only reason you should have one. You can also personalize the Yahoo login page by using your photo or the company logo as the sign in seal. Let me elaborate on these two points.

Why can’t I add my email account on Outlook Express?

Posted on September 16, 2009 under Email, Outlook Express  |  Leave a comment

I’ve gone over your instructions so many times in the past hour but I still cannot add my email account on Outlook Express. I’ve followed them step by step (thanks for the screenshots) but it just doesn’t seem to work out. Could you please tell me what I would be doing wrong?
Piero Tosetti

Outlook Express, as most of you would know, is an email program that came free with Internet Explorer (till version 6) and the Windows operating system. The bundled package of the web browser and the email client has now been discontinued as Microsoft has stopped the development and support for Outlook Express. They’ve released Windows Live Mail which is free and supposedly better than O.E.

Load a different Gmail account

Posted on September 16, 2009 under Email, Gmail  |  2 Comments

I have several Gmail accounts – ridiculous, I know. But as I could not get the username I wanted, I kept trying variations and then being dissatisfied with them. Now I have a user name I’m happy with and want to close those unused accounts, but every time I go to the Gmail login I’m on the page of my new account, which is not the one I want to close. What do I do? Thanks
Vera

Vera wants to load a different Gmail account but is unable to do so because each time she visits Gmail web site her new account is displayed. The solution is quite simple actually and I’ll soon point you in the right direction but let me first explain how the problem came about.

Windows Live Mail doesn’t work

Posted on September 16, 2009 under Email, Windows Live Mail  |  1 Comment

I use a Windows Vista laptop and want Outlook Express. But I learnt that it cannot be installed on this operating system. So I downloaded Windows Live Mail from the Microsoft web site (based on your recommendation) and installed it on my computer. However, Windows Live mail doesn’t work. Do I need to reinstall it? What am I doing wrong? I think I was better off with Outlook Express.

For those who don’t know, Windows Live Mail is a new email client from Microsoft that is meant to replace Outlook Express. The company urges users to shift to the new program because they longer support and develop Outlook Express. However, the transition from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail can be frustrating for many users because of the differences in the interface and organization of email messages and email accounts. But the basic functionality is the same.
